Volunteering for a Healthier Life

Family Teaching Kitchens

The United Way of Metro Nashville is helping families in at-risk neighborhoods develop healthy lifestyles through the United Way Women United in Giving Family Teaching Kitchens initiative!

United Way Women United in Giving is partnering with the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, Metro Parks & Recreation, and the Nashville Public Library in a critical study to prevent childhood obesity, and the Family Teaching Kitchens initiative is a key component of the study.

 They need our help!

Take Home Bag Supply Shopping
After each Family Teaching Kitchens class, families are given the supplies necessary to recreate the meal at home. Volunteers are needed to shop for the take home bag supplies. This would be a great way to involve a friend or children in a volunteer activity!

 Teaching Kitchens Set-Up
Family Teaching Kitchens classes offer families an opportunity to learn how to prepare a healthy meal and give them the chance to try something new. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up at the classes which involves setting up tables & chairs and hanging decorations.

Teaching Kitchens Support
Do you enjoy cooking, being a good hostess, and entertaining?  Volunteers are needed to help during the Family Teaching Kitchens sessions (October 15 & October 29).
