ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) – The American Heart Association has released a new list of foods for Americans to stay away because they are too salty.
The AHA came out with the “salty six,” a list of the most common foods in diets that have excess sodium, according to CBS News. The foods include breads and rolls, cold cuts and cured meats, pizza, poultry, soup, and sandwiches.
“Excess sodium in our diets has less to do with what we’re adding to our food and more to do with what’s already in the food,” Dr. Linda Van Horn, a research nutritionist at Northwestern University, said in a press release. “The average individual is getting more than double the amount of sodium that they need, but there are ways to improve their sodium intake under control.”
